Ant Control in Kansas City, MO
Ant Treatment Across the Kansas City Metro
Odorous house ants, pavement ants, and carpenter ants are the most common ant problems in Kansas City homes. Odorous house ants and pavement ants are a nuisance that swarm kitchens and bathrooms, especially after rain, while carpenter ants are a structural concern since they tunnel through moisture-damaged wood. Store-bought sprays often make ant problems worse by splitting the colony instead of eliminating it.
Titan Pest Pro identifies the ant species and treats the colony at its source — not just the ants you can see — along with the entry points and moisture conditions that draw them in. Licensed, local, and veteran-founded, serving Overland Park, Independence, Liberty, Lenexa, Shawnee, and the full Kansas City metro.
How Ant Treatment Works
- Inspection and Identification
We identify the ant species — odorous house, pavement, or carpenter — since the treatment approach differs for each.
- Colony Treatment
We target the colony directly with baiting and treatment methods matched to the species, not just a surface spray on visible trails.
- Entry Point and Moisture Control
We treat entry points and flag the moisture conditions, especially around carpenter ant activity, that keep drawing ants back.
- Ongoing Prevention
Monthly general pest service keeps new colonies from establishing.
Ant Treatment and Extermination Across the Kansas City Metro
Ant problems in this metro are mostly suburban lot problems. Irrigated lawns, deep mulch beds, paver patios, retaining walls and slab foundations are the standard ingredients of a modern Johnson County or Northland property, and every one of them is also good ant habitat. That is why the heaviest ant pressure here is not downtown — it is in Overland Park, Prairie Village and Leawood.
Titan Pest Pro identifies the species before treating and works both sides of the state line, licensed in Missouri and Kansas.
Why Suburban Lots Here Produce So Many Ants
A well-kept suburban property is, from an ant’s point of view, close to ideal. Four features do most of the work.
Irrigation. A lawn watered on a timer through a dry August holds moisture when the surrounding ground has none. Ants concentrate where water is, so an irrigated lot draws colonies in from drier ground nearby and then keeps them fed through the season when they would otherwise have thinned out.
Hardscape. Paver patios, walkways, driveways, retaining walls and landscape edging all create exactly what several species want: a warm, dry, stable void directly over soil, with easy access. The thin lines of displaced sand between pavers are the visible evidence. Hardscape is also the hardest habitat to treat from above, because the nest sits under something solid.
Mulch beds against the foundation. Deep mulch banked to the siding holds moisture, shelters colonies, and bridges straight over whatever perimeter treatment exists — the ants never touch the ground where the barrier is.
Slab construction. Most newer metro housing is slab-on-grade, which removes the crawlspace but adds expansion joints, slab penetrations and the perimeter seam. Ants nesting beneath the slab surface indoors along a baseboard, and the nest is under concrete where nothing sprayed inside will reach it.
The Two Species People Here Search For By Name
Odorous house ants
The ant most often found on a kitchen counter in this metro. Small and dark, with a distinctive smell when crushed. The operationally important thing about them is that a household spray can split a colony instead of killing it — stressed colonies divide and the satellites relocate, which is why so many people describe one trail becoming several after they treated it themselves. Treatment has to be something foragers carry home rather than something that kills them where they stand.
Pavement ants
The species behind the small soil mounds at the edge of a driveway or between pavers. They nest under hardscape and slabs and come up through joints and cracks. Because the nest is under concrete, pavement ant work is perimeter and joint work — treating the trail indoors addresses the visible few and leaves the colony untouched.
Carpenter ants
Less common in newer suburban construction than in older housing, but the one with structural consequences where it turns up: they excavate galleries in wood that is already damp or damaged. Finding carpenter ants is a prompt to look for the water — a failed window seal, an overflowing gutter line, a deck ledger — because the moisture is the actual problem.
Rain, Drought, and Why Ants Suddenly Appear
Two opposite weather events both drive ants indoors here, and knowing which one you are in tells you what is happening.
After heavy rain. Saturated soil floods shallow nests, and colonies under slabs and hardscape move up and inward. Ants appearing in numbers the day after a storm are usually an existing colony relocating rather than a new infestation arriving.
During a dry spell. When the ground bakes and outdoor moisture disappears, foraging pushes toward the reliable water indoors — kitchens, bathrooms, air conditioner condensate lines. On an irrigated lot this is less pronounced, which is one reason the same street can have very different ant years house to house.
Spring is when colonies expand and reproductive swarms appear. Winged ants indoors mean a mature colony in or immediately against the structure, and they are regularly mistaken for termite swarmers — ants have a pinched waist, bent antennae and a longer front wing pair. If it turns out to be termites, that is an entirely different service.
How Titan Treats Ants in the Metro
Species first
Odorous house ants, pavement ants and carpenter ants need three different approaches, and the wrong one either scatters the colony or misses it entirely. Identification takes minutes and decides everything after it.
Perimeter, joints and hardscape
Because so much of the nesting here is under concrete, the work concentrates on the foundation perimeter, expansion joints, the seams of patios and walkways, and the base of retaining walls — where the colony actually is, rather than where the ants are visible.
Transfer, not knockdown
Baits and non-repellent materials the foragers carry back into the colony. You will see ants for several days afterward and that is the treatment reaching the nest. A product that clears the counter in an hour is usually the one that splits the colony.
The landscape conversation
Part of the visit is pointing out what is making the property attractive: mulch depth against the siding, an irrigation head soaking one corner of the foundation, shrubs and limbs touching the roof, landscape timbers on soil. These are cheap changes that make every later treatment work better.
Ongoing coverage
Ant pressure on a suburban lot is seasonal but recurring, because the conditions that attracted the first colony are still there. Ant control is included in Titan Core Home Protection, our ongoing general pest plan covering the interior and the foundation perimeter — see the service plans page.
Two States, One Metro
Titan is licensed in Missouri and Kansas, which matters here more than it would in most markets: a household in Prairie Village, a rental in Overland Park and a business on the Missouri side are three different regulatory contexts and one phone call. The treatment does not change with the state line — only the paperwork behind it does.
Ant Control Across the Metro
- Overland Park, Kansas — the metro’s biggest source of ant calls by a clear margin, and it fits the city: built mainly as greenfield suburb after it incorporated in 1960, which means slab foundations, irrigated lawns and a great deal of hardscape — pavement-ant country.
- Prairie Village and Leawood, Kansas — developed from the 1920s and now around three-quarters built out, so mature trees, established irrigation and decades of landscaping against the foundation. Odorous house ants indoors and pavement ants at the driveway are the usual pair.
- Lenexa, Shawnee and Olathe, Kansas — established housing alongside newer slab construction, so expansion-joint activity turns up on the newer streets.
- Kansas City, Missouri — the widest range of construction in the metro, where older housing adds carpenter-ant moisture problems to the suburban pattern.
- Independence, Liberty and Blue Springs — established suburbs where mature landscaping and older foundations do most of the work.
The Plan Built for This: Titan Core Home Protection
Ant control is covered under Titan Core Home Protection, our general pest plan. Pricing starts at $99 for homes up to 2,000 sq ft and scales up to $249 for 4,001-5,000 sq ft — confirmed exactly at your free inspection. Ongoing monthly service keeps ant colonies from re-establishing.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Why do sprays not get rid of my ants?
Store-bought sprays often kill the ants you see but split the colony, making the problem worse. Colony-targeted baiting is what actually eliminates the source.
Are carpenter ants a serious problem?
Yes — carpenter ants tunnel through wood, usually where moisture has already caused damage. Seeing them is worth a professional inspection to check for structural moisture issues.
Why do I get ants after it rains?
Rain drives odorous house ants and pavement ants indoors looking for dry ground, which is why kitchens and bathrooms see a spike after storms.
Is ant treatment safe for kids and pets?
We apply products according to label directions and your technician explains any household-specific precautions before treatment begins.
How fast can you come out?
Weekday same-day service is often available across the metro, depending on technician availability.
I sprayed and now there are more trails in more places. What happened?
Most likely odorous house ants. A colony under stress can divide, with satellite groups moving away from the disturbance. They did not come back — there are now several. Bait-based treatment avoids this because it reaches the nest rather than alarming it.
There are little piles of dirt between my pavers.
Pavement ants nesting underneath. Because the nest is under hardscape, the treatment is at the joints and perimeter; sweeping the piles away changes nothing.
Do you work in Kansas as well as Missouri?
Yes, licensed in both. Overland Park, Prairie Village, Leawood, Lenexa, Shawnee and Olathe are all served, and in practice they are where most of our metro ant work is.
Do I need the outside treated, or just inside?
Almost always outside as well. In this metro the great majority of indoor ant problems originate from a colony under the slab, the patio or the landscape, so an interior-only treatment leaves the source in place.
Is ant treatment safe around children and pets?
Yes, with placement planned around the household and a short re-entry interval we will explain. Mention vegetable beds, pets that dig, and where children play.
Could my irrigation be causing this?
It can certainly contribute. A head that soaks one corner of the foundation, or a zone running long in a dry month, creates exactly the moisture ants are looking for. We will flag it if we see it.
Will one treatment be enough?
Often for a single established trail. On a property with hardscape, irrigation and mature landscaping, ongoing coverage does better — not because the first treatment failed, but because the lot keeps being attractive.
Do you treat ants at a restaurant or commercial site?
Yes, with documentation and scheduling built around the site.

We've worked with Jordan for multiple pest issues, and he has been nothing short of phenomenal. When we discovered bats in our attic, Jordan not only handled the capture with care and professionalism—he went above and beyond by cleaning up thoroughly afterward.
