Mole Control in Springfield & Kansas City, MO

Raised ridges across the lawn. Soft spots where the grass sinks underfoot. Mounds of dirt where you didn’t dig. Moles tunnel underground in active runways, eating grubs and earthworms — and destroying lawn aesthetics in the process.

Titan Pest Pro provides professional mole control across Springfield, Kansas City, and surrounding communities. Ongoing monitoring targets active tunnel runs, the only realistic long-term approach. Free inspection.

Moles vs Voles: Different Animals, Different Treatment

Significant customer confusion exists between moles and voles. They are different animals with different damage patterns and treatment needs:

  • MOLES are insectivores. They eat grubs, earthworms, and other invertebrates. They do NOT eat plants or roots. Damage is from tunnel systems pushing up surface and creating raised ridges and entry mounds. Treatment is bait placed directly in the active tunnels.
  • VOLES are rodents (like small chunky mice). They eat plant material, bark, roots, bulbs, and stored seeds. They use mouse-like runways through grass and damage plantings. Treatment uses a rodent bait placed in their active burrows, plus changes that make the yard less inviting.

If you have damage to plant roots, bark girdling on young trees, or eaten bulbs, you have voles, not moles. We identify which during inspection.

Missouri Mole Species

One main species in Missouri: the Eastern Mole (Scalopus aquaticus). 5-7 inches long, gray-brown fur (often appears darker because of soil), tiny eyes (mostly blind), strong front feet adapted for digging. Active year-round. Solitary except during breeding (one mole’s tunnel system can cover 1-3 acres).

Why Most DIY Mole Methods Fall Short

  • Repellent products (castor oil based, predator urine, ultrasonic devices): inconsistent evidence base. Some users report success; controlled studies show limited effectiveness. Moles often relocate temporarily but return when the repellent dissipates.
  • Grub treatment: addresses ONE food source. Moles also eat earthworms and other invertebrates, so grub treatment alone often doesn’t eliminate mole pressure.
  • Smoke bombs, household poisons and store-bought traps: typically ineffective, and kill traps carry a risk to pets and other animals.
  • Professional bait placed inside confirmed active tunnels: what our technicians use. We don’t use kill traps, because of the risk to pets and other non-target animals.

Effective mole control starts with telling active runways from abandoned ones (many tunnels are no longer used), then placing bait completely inside the tunnels that are. Finding the active runs is what separates effective control from frustration.

Process and Approach

Our mole control approach:

  • Inspection to identify active vs abandoned runways (many tunnel ridges are no longer in use)
  • Active runway identification by pressing down a small section of the ridge and checking if it’s repaired within 24-48 hours (active mole repairs it)
  • Bait placed inside confirmed active runways, usually over two initial visits • Follow-up visits to check for new activity and re-treat active tunnels as needed
  • Lawn restoration recommendations — ridge collapse, reseeding any bare patches
  • Follow-up if new activity appears

For properties with persistent mole pressure (often properties near wooded areas with high invertebrate populations), moles and voles can be added to Titan Yard Defense for ongoing monitoring.

The Steps for Our Mole Pest Control Services

Our process is systematic and thorough, so current activity is controlled and new activity is caught early. Here’s how we handle problems from start to finish:

Step 1 — Free inspection and mole activity check

We inspect the lawn, identify active mole tunnels, and confirm whether the damage is from moles or voles.

Step 2 — Treatment plan and written estimate

We explain the treatment plan, expected timeline, and cost before work begins.

Step 3 — Treatment in active runways

We place mole bait directly inside confirmed active runways, usually over two initial visits. Moles live and feed in their tunnel systems, so treatment goes where they actually travel.

Step 4 — Follow-up visits and activity monitoring

We come back to check for new tunnel activity and re-treat active runs until activity drops off.

Step 5 — Lawn restoration guidance and ongoing protection

After activity slows or stops, we provide lawn restoration recommendations, such as flattening ridges and reseeding bare patches. Properties with recurring mole pressure may benefit from ongoing monitoring through the Titan Yard Defense add-on.

The IPM System

We employ an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) system for mole control, balancing effectiveness, safety, and environmental responsibility. Our IPM approach involves multiple strategies to manage their populations sustainably. We start with preventive measures, such as maintaining a healthy lawn and reducing food sources. If they are present, we implement targeted treatments that minimize chemical use. By using an IPM system, we protect your property while respecting the environment.

One team for all of it.

Most companies handle just one — pests, or termites, or wildlife — and refer the rest out. Titan handles all three as one local team. One call, one company, one crew that knows your property.

Our guarantee is simple.

If a pest is covered by your plan and it comes back between scheduled visits, we re-service at no additional charge. Coverage varies by plan.

Mole Control Cost

Honest ranges for mole control:

  • Titan Yard Defense mole and vole add-on (4–6 visits): typically $250 to $600, confirmed at your free inspection.
  • Larger properties or persistent activity: typically $400 to $900.
  • Lawn restoration after activity (ridge collapse, reseeding): variable based on damage scope.
  • Titan Yard Defense mole and vole add-on: quoted after your free inspection. Free inspection includes written estimate.

Titan Yard Defense Add-On

For properties with recurring mole control pressure, moles and voles can be added to Titan Yard Defense as an add-on, for ongoing monitoring and treatment of new activity.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Important distinction. MOLES are insectivores — they eat grubs, earthworms, and invertebrates. They do not eat plants. Damage is from tunnel systems creating raised ridges and surface disruption. VOLES are rodents — they eat plants, bark, roots, and bulbs. Voles use mouse-like runways and damage plantings. If your plants are dying from root damage or trees are girdled, you have voles, not moles.

Inconsistent results. Castor oil products, ultrasonic devices, predator urine, and similar ‘repellents’ have a weak evidence base. Some users report success but controlled studies show limited effectiveness. The most common pattern: moles relocate within the yard temporarily, then return. For consistent control, professional bait placed in active tunnels works better; repellents don’t reliably.

Sometimes helps, often doesn’t fully solve the problem. Moles eat grubs but also earthworms, beetle larvae, and other invertebrates. Grub treatment addresses one food source but typically doesn’t reduce mole pressure to zero in properties with healthy soil invertebrate populations.

It depends on how many moles are active and the size of the property. Treatment usually starts with two initial visits, then follow-ups as needed until activity drops off. Properties with persistent re-infestation pressure (near woods, agricultural land): ongoing management often makes more sense than repeated one-time treatments.

Honest ranges: single property treatment program $250-$600. Larger properties or persistent activity $400-$900. Ongoing treatment is available as a Titan Yard Defense add-on. Free inspection includes written estimate.
