Before the rule, technically every native bird in your house required a permit conversation. Now, prompt indoor removal is authorized. We handle birds inside buildings under this authorization, but exterior work on protected species still requires the standard MBTA permit pathway (which is rarely granted to private parties).
Protected Bird Situations We Coordinate Rather Than Treat
Several common bird situations involve protected species and require coordination rather than removal:
- Robins or cardinals nesting in unwanted spots: we don’t remove active nests. We can recommend deterrent placement to discourage future nesting and provide guidance on the typical 2-3 week nestling timeline.
